When this happens to me, I've accidentally changed the width of the window a smidge with the cursor. The only complete fix I've found is to close and reopen, although popping into HELP with F1 momentarily will mostly fix the screen.

I'm seeing the same thing, but only with one configuration (I'm using several slightly different configurations of ZTreeWin). Now that I think of it, the problem usually occurs with a configuration I routinely use on my second monitor.

I haven't been able to test all the differences between the configurations, and won't have time for the next month, but I will try running that same configuration on the primary monitor only.

The problem never appears to occur on my (single-screen) home laptop.

So perhaps it's related to use on a non-primary monitor.

I'm guessing this is related to the way the console host was updated so that text in a command-line window is automatically 're-flowed' when the screen size changes. But I'm not sure as to the specifics involved, or how the interaction between ZTreeWin and the console host triggers this behaviour.

Exactly- if you can live without the new console functionality, setting the shortcut settings to "Use legacy console' will avoid it.

Thank you all!

It's amazing how I can be using Ztree for so many years and not know a little thing like this one. Guess you don't know it till you need it!

That's the amazing thing about this product - Kim has baked in SO many useful things. I'm grateful every day I get to use it... which is every day! And all day! :-)

Thanks, Kim and Martjin.

Thanks guys.

The new console setting does the trick.
In response to Walt's post, as I mentioned, two successive Alt-F7's clear things up nicely for me.

[Help!] Log DCIM Folders on an iPhone?

Post by John Baum, Jul 01,2019 at 21:18:

Is it feasible to log and access the DCIM image folders on an Apple iPhone?

I have a classic format iPhone5 necessarily running iOS 10.3.3.

I can navigate to the folders using Win7 Explorer but it would be nice to use ZTreeWin!

Unfortunately I do not see 'Drive Letters' assigned to the device when it is connected. Does this categorically preclude using ZTreeWin?

thanks,
John

What about %l [L]eaf - thinking of the branch as a Tree with the Files being its Leafs.

You said 'root directory', do you mean the branch root?

Agreed, that's what I think of, too.

Looks good, this is what I imagine.

> If the root directory is needed, %n%c would work.
What do you mean here?
In the help file's example C:2010SeptemberTest_File.txt, %n is the Current dir name (September).
Do you mean another parameter?

Well, the selected file is certainly a leaf. But I'm not sure relating that to its relative path would be any less confusing than %b. I realize we are having to stretch our thinking here, but I still think %c is the best suggestion so far.

I also think %l looks too much like %1 in most fonts to be a good choice for any parameter.

Is there a way to detect the console has been resized, so that ZTree can re-draw?

Thanks

John

The general question is "can ZTree work with MTP storage", the answer is no, because they are mounted as namespaces in Explorer and ZTree can only work with drive letters as source locations (although it can use UNC's for destinations).

Have a look at https://www.mtpdrive.com/, which should mount the MTP device as a drive letter, which ZTree will then be able to work with.

You can try before you buy.

Frightening - only today have I discovered that you are 'NOT' limited to 3 character extension names when using Ztree' facility of Open against a Filename.EXT.

I just created an abcd.BAT file in the ztree folder that operates on Filename.abcd as well as ab.BAT that works on Filename.ab.

This has opened up a whole new avenue of exploration.

No longer am I limited to copying & renaming files to have different operations performed against them.

The F1 Help could be changed as it 'only' mentions .ext - could be changed to .extn.

Just my 2c.

[ZEP] Filters in Directory and File Mode

$

Post by Pat Gilbert, Jul 03,2019 at 07:12:

I have tagged this a ZEP as it may be beneficial to others if I have understood the current filter mode functions correctly. If it has already been discussed and clarified then I apologise as my brief search did not find it.

The scenario is that my office uses PaloAlto "TRAPS" protection for their network domain and laptop users. This software, as one of its protection methods creates hidden files and folders ALL over the PC directory structure and any removeable drive connected to it. People who only use windows will never see these files or directories and will be none the wiser but they make an almighty mess when using ZTreeWin.

The files and directory names usually start with "!!!!!" and "ZZZZZ" or some special character that look like spaces but may change to "XORXOR???????" when certain filters are applied. The remaining parts of the name are a set of numerals with a common type of extension e.g. "!!!!!123456789.doc" or "......123456789.xls" (I have used dots instead of spaces as the html does not seem to want to keep my spaces). The naming is so that these dummy files appear at the begining and end of directory which is typically where malware looks for files to infect.

I managed to set a filter in my shortcut startup to hide the majority of these files but when I use a filter to hide the files with 6 starting spaces it works in ZTree but not in the shortcut startup

ZTree Filter that works for the files
-!!!!!*.*,-ZZZZZ*.*,-XORXOR*.*,-"......*.*" (replace dots with spaces)

shortcut parameters that work
-"!!!!!*.*" -"ZZZZZ*.*" -"XORXOR*.*

shortcut parameters that does not work
-"!!!!!*.*" -"ZZZZZ*.*" -"XORXOR*.* -"......*.*" (replace dots with spaces)

In this case the filter that is applied is the same as -*.* and no files are displayed. If somebody knows a way to make this work in the shortcut I would be very grateful.

I can live without the shortcut working the same however, but what I would like is the DIR MODE filter to apply the view not just in the small window in DIR MODE but also in the main Directory Window AND also when switching to FILE MODE so the filter is maintained. To me, it seems more logical that if you filter directories you also don't want to see them when in File Mode. I seem to recall that you can't copy and paste between FILE MODE filters and DIR MODE filters so there may be technical reasons that make this not possible or very difficult in which case consider the ZEP withdrawn.

Lastly, on a personal note, I just want to say that my love for this software has not diminished over the years and although I still get flak from people who don't know and don't want to know, I just have a little laugh inside at their blind mediocrity!

Sorry I missed the endquote on the "XORXOR" sample.

Should be as follows

shortcut parameters that work
-"!!!!!*.*" -"ZZZZZ*.*" -"XORXOR*.*"

shortcut parameters that does not work
-"!!!!!*.*" -"ZZZZZ*.*" -"XORXOR*.*" -"......*.*" (replace dots with spaces)

Apparently, it is possible to read screen buffer size changes as input events. Of course, I've no idea how this would fit in ZTreeWin's handling of events.

Currently, I prefer having to press Alt+F7 twice every once in a while, in order to have access to the new console capabilities, instead of reverting to the legacy console. (It's too bad that's a system-wide setting).

The link above is broken, but this link (https://www.mtpdrive.com/index.html) works.

The program works as advertised. I can connect my Galaxy S6 Edge+ to ZTW. I have replaced the S6 with an S10+; I haven't tested the new phone out yet.

Macros?

Could you circumvent the quotes problem by specifying the filter using a macro? In macros, you can encode double quotes as QUOTE.

I haven't tested it, but perhaps something like /K"f,-,QUOTE,!!!!!*.*,QUOTE, -,QUOTE,ZZZZZ*.*,QUOTE, -,QUOTE,XORXOR*.*,QUOTE, -,QUOTE, *.*,QUOTE" could work?

Actually, its a feature of Windows.
You *can* create extension with more than three letters in Windows Explorer as well as in command shell.

Perhaps 'Use Legacy Console' in it's entirety may be a bit more than needed.

See: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/orphan-topics/ws.11/mt427362(v=ws.11)

Many reg entries that may be involved, but particularly:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERConsole]
"LineWrap"=dword:00000001

Change LineWrap

"LineWrap"=dword:00000000

This should turn off the Automatic Line Wrapping when the console size changes.

Re-enable the console new behavior and disable Line Wrapping (re-flowing) and test away.

Thanks,

Ron Metzger
