Steve -- Not here in ZTree, but on thinkpads.com.

You, Bill, and another fellow whose name I've forgotten set up a successor ThinkPads site after there was some unpleasantness with Lenovo, post-T43 days. Within days it was hacked. Bill's name still is on the forum, but I suspect that he's not around anymore.

As for Michael Kahn, there's been a straw in the wind or two here; someone else may know. So many familiar names of the ZTree past now gone missing. Jeff Johnson of XTree I guess used to surface once in a great while, but no more.

Many of us around here are getting on in years. Not Kim H., though, or Victor G.

This applies if ZTree is itself installed under "Program Files".
Only in this case ZBAR.DAT is created and updated in %APPDATA%ZTreeWin.

I personally have ZTree location at D:ProgrammeZTree.
So ZBAR.DAT is created/updated in D:ProgrammeZTree (working well with other ZAAPs).

> My solution: Copy rpVT into %APPDATA%ZTreeWin
> Any better "trick"?

Hey I finally got rpVT to sync with ZTree (first time on Win7 ever! :-)
Condition:
rpVT seems to NOT look for "ztw64.exe".
Nor does it sync with the 64-bit version, even if I rename ztw64.exe to ztw.exe.

So, though it's a restriction to the win32 version, it does sync with ZTree (32-bit) in its normal location (which is outside of "C:Program Files" for me anyway).

That is good news. Thanks for your contribution !

Sincerely,
Hartmut

ZTWiki has been closed for some time now for lack of interest from the community, total lack of time from myself to maintain it, but mostly because of a major vulnerability in the TikiWiki that ended up with the site being hacked and all other websites installed on shared account being hijacked as well as a result.

TikiWiki plateform development was stalled at one point while some upgrade paths in the past were bumpy to say the least ending up twice in the site being totally messed up or files being corrupted. I lost confidence in this plateform in the end. I wondered for a while to export to a more flexible and popualr plateform such as Joomla or Wordpress, but contributions on ZTwiki were created with wiki-syntax, not HTML, limiting the options or increasing the challenge to export. Actually both.

I kept all files/mysql database though. If somebody wants to rebuit a new site on another plateform, I can give all archives.

My records show that I sent Kim my first Ztree registration form on October 2nd 1996 via snail-mail, and my original ZTW.KEY is dated October 7th 1996. It appears that my first emails to Kim (khenkel@gate.net) in December of 1996 were about version 1.11.

I remember an awkward period between Windows 95 not working properly with Xtree, and discovering Ztree. I can't remember how long it took me to discover it, but was so relieved that I bought a pile of licences. Can't remember how many, but I bet I'm the last one still using them.

The current history.txt only goes back as far as November 2008. I recently found a webpage where someone had compiled a list of all the changes prior to that (or possibly some earlier date), but I can't find it now. Does anyone know of it?

Found it, it's at http://www.xtreefanpage.org/docs/ztw_hist.txt

It ends in August 2008 at version 1.73, whereas the current history.txt starts at v2.0.116 just 3 months later, so unless there was a big jump in version numbers, it sounds like there are some important changes missing.

There are a few more years n this list of ZtreeBold changes:
http://www.xtreefanpage.org/docs/ztb_hist.txt

I found those mentioned here, with the release of v1.5, so someone must have added further updates since then:
http://www.ztw3.com/forum/forum_entry.php?id=74166

Lots of Xtree change history here too:

Solution tested with Win7:
Copy ZT & rpVT -files in same directory
start ZT with ZTW64.EXE /Y /ZB then rpvt.exe /qz
rpVT starts in Standalone Mode
klick two times (minimum) on to the S
rpVT sync's
full house :-)

So, no restriction to the win32 version, just a little unconvenient to start

have fun

Wow, syncs here too!

One condition:
clicking on S here only syncs after ZTree at least once has updated zbar.dat,
e.g. by leaving the eXecute window or moving the cursor. (tried on Win7 64bit here)
Reason: rpVT creates an own zbar.dat file if it doesn't sync at startup.
As both tools have the same current dir, both work on the same zbar.dat.
This has to be updated by ZTree at least once,
otherwise I guess rpVT doesn't find ZTree's window handle, see zaap.txt.

BTW: The /ZD parameter (see install.rme) alone did NOT help to get synced to ztw64.
But helps with 32-bit ztw.exe: it does sync here at startup!
See the discussions near http://www.ztw3.com/forum/forum_entry.php?id=109818

Thanks a lot for you contribution, Bernhard!
I had already given up getting rpVT to work on Win7 64bit.

[rpVT] rpVT & ZTreeW64 + tip

Reply from Liviu, Jan 21,2017 at 21:08:

Hi Bernhard,

Good question, thank you. I was away for a few days, and only caught up with the forum now.

There are a couple of separate issues with rpVT b424 used against ZTW64 v2.4x.

1.  The location of zbar.dat i.e. %#ZTHome% vs. %APPDATA% depending on ZTree's installation directory.

Maybe Kim could add yet another environment variable such as #ZTZBarDir (a la #ZTIniPath) to hold the directory of the current zbar.dat (only applicable if ZTree was started with /ZB).

Until then, the command line for rpVT needs to somehow hardcode the /zd directory.

2.  rpVT not sync'ing with the target ZTW64.

Issue here is rather technical, and is due to Windows' rules of 32b/64b cohabitation. Haven't truly got to the bottom of it, but what appears to happen is that rpVT routinely performs a window and process check on the handle read from zbar.dat but, when the window owner is a 64b process like ZTW64, something fails along the way, which prevents sync'ing.

Until that's fixed in rpVt (or hacked some way or another), a possible workaround is to force rpVT to run in "remote mode", where those checks are bypassed. That can be done with the /rm command-line switch, for example /rmbb to specify a bogus "remapping" of drive letter B to itself (it doesn't matter whether the drive letter is in use or not).

The following F9-menu command appears to work fine for me with ZTree v2.4.169 under Win7 x64 and Win10 x64 (fix the paths to rpVT.exe and zbar.dat as needed):

start %#ZTTools%rpvtrpvt.exe /rmbb /zd%#ZTHome% /qz

Granted, the above is only a workaround rather than a real solution, and it sacrifices some of the "local mode" functionality (e.g. sync'ing and auto-switching between multiple instances of ZTree with different roots), but maybe someone will still find it better than nothing.

Best,
Liviu

I have set CO-1M to Yes.
Now if I try to increment a file's modify date/time, e.g. +1s,
this works okay on files from Winter.
But on files from Summer (modify date lies in Daylight Saving Time range)
the time is incremented by one hour plus one second.

Anyone else?

Yes, I believe I have seen this behavior. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why this or something like it was happening, and then it seems to have gone away. No surprise now, as we moved to Standard time just two months ago.

Hi

when i decided to switch to XP from win98
i bought 2 new and exactly the same motherboards and much later 1 bought another same kind but used one, i had the total of 3.

when some online game was introduced to me. I killed some monsters and they dropped items and picked them up and was selling them from in-game shop for in-game coins for 7 years, which means my pc had to be on for 7 years too. during this time, i lost 2 motherboards (1 new and 1 used)

i simply replaced the motherboard, my xp survived, i didnt had to reinstall the XP and all other softwares and their settings. this was the happiest moment... 2 times

-----

i dont see the difference between win10 and XP in my definition of OS.
what microsoft killed was IE and DirectX

when i uninstalled the IE from win98 and XP, it took away the shortcut keys with it.
even though shortcut keys had nothing to do with IE.

firefox still runs in XP, and it is a semi OS independant software (only because of win98) i hate to lose win98's FAT 32 DOS.

microsoft killed the directX in XP and will kill it in your win10 later.
even though directx has nothing to do with OS, this is why people should support the openGL which is an OS independant video accelerator.

-----

if ztree supports a different OS, i will follow that OS. you may let me know what OS might be a good candidate.

-----

here is something about me
i am a physicist and do numerical analysis with the true basic complier with DOS 6.22.

about true basic maker
he was an alert einstein's math assistant
he was doing the numerical analysis in the manhatan project
he was the 1st one who developed the math complier before fortran (i am not totally sure of this one)

* true basic pro version and windows version are trash. slower and unstable, and have the bad editor(because the maker died).. meaning i am stuck with the DOS forever
